Dr. Heather Hood received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Ryerson University and completed her pre-doctoral residency at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, where she received specialized training in inpatient and outpatient mood and anxiety disorders, and health psychology. Currently, Dr. Hood works as a staff psychologist in the Program for Traumatic Stress Recovery (PTSR) at the Homewood Health Centre in Guelph, and as an Assistant Clinical Professor with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University. She has authored a number of peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in the area of anxiety disorders and their treatment, and she has presented her research at several national and international conferences.
At B & C Health, Dr. Hood provides assessment and treatment to adults with mood, anxiety, trauma, obsessive compulsive disorder, stress, insomnia, and emotion regulation difficulties. She primarily works from a cognitive behavioural framework, and has experience providing dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and mindfulness-based treatments for a range of emotional and adjustment related difficulties. Dr. Hood’s approach to therapy is collaborative and supportive, with a focus on creating a safe environment for therapeutic change and combining client strengths with evidence-based treatment principles. Dr. Hood is registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
